Role Overview

Are you a hands‑on Project Manager who genuinely enjoys bringing order, clarity and structure to complex change? Do you enjoy working from a blank canvas with the autonomy to build and implement a PMO Function your way?

Key Responsibilities

I am working with a Housing Association based locally to Slough to recruit for a PMO Lead/Project Manager. They are investing heavily in systems, technology and service improvement, and are now looking for a Project Manager & PMO Lead to establish a clear, consistent and effective PMO capability where one has not previously existed in a formal sense. You’ll be responsible for designing and embedding the foundations, defining how projects are planned, governed, reported and sequenced, while also remaining close to delivery and outcomes.

You’ll sit at the centre of a growing portfolio of change, providing visibility across multiple concurrent initiatives and helping the organisation move from reactive delivery to structured, prioritised and transparent execution. In practice, that means creating and maintaining a master delivery plan and roadmap, introducing consistent ways of working, and ensuring projects move through defined stages with the right level of readiness, governance and business engagement at each point.

You’ll work closely with delivery leads, analysts, system owners and suppliers to coordinate dependencies, manage risks and keep momentum going, while ensuring that operational teams are not overwhelmed or disrupted unnecessarily. A key part of the role is building credibility and confidence in delivery discipline. You’ll establish fit‑for‑purpose PMO artefacts such as templates, reporting, decision logs and governance forums, making it easier for leaders to understand what’s happening, what’s at risk, and where decisions are needed.

This role also has line‑management responsibility, with the opportunity to shape a small team and build capability alongside the PMO itself. You’ll help create a culture where projects are well planned, properly supported, and focused on achieving real outcomes rather than just activity. You’ll stay close to delivery supporting go‑lives, coordinating testing and readiness activity, and ensuring that projects land safely into live operation with appropriate follow‑up and early‑life support.

Qualifications & Experience

You’ll be comfortable managing multiple initiatives at once, introducing structure without unnecessary bureaucracy, and communicating confidently with both senior leaders and delivery teams. Experience setting up or maturing a PMO, portfolio coordination, or governance framework is key. You’ll bring calm, clarity and pragmatism, with the confidence to challenge, prioritise and make trade‑offs visible. Experience in housing, social housing, or another service‑led operational environment is highly beneficial, as is experience working with digital, systems or technology‑enabled change.

Benefits & Working Conditions

The salary on offer is £65,000 with some great benefits. It is a hybrid role with 2 days a week in their office based on the outskirts of Slough.
