Desk Based Financial Planner

Location: Manchester

Salary: Up to Β£55,000

Working Pattern: Hybrid

We are looking for a Desk Based Financial Planner to join a successful and expanding financial planning team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced adviser who enjoys building long-term client relationships, providing holistic financial planning advice and identifying new opportunities to support clients throughout their financial journey.

The Role

As a Desk Based Financial Planner, you will provide high-quality, independent financial advice and financial planning to private clients across a broad range of planning needs.

You will be responsible for maintaining and developing existing client relationships, identifying new advice opportunities and delivering a consistently high level of client service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and nurture an existing client portfolio, developing strong and lasting relationships.
  • Proactively contact clients to introduce and convert them to the ongoing service proposition.
  • Conduct regular client reviews and identify changing financial planning needs.
  • Provide holistic financial planning advice across investments, pensions, retirement planning and wider wealth management solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for additional advice and generate new business from existing and prospective clients.
  • Achieve agreed revenue and business development targets.
  • Proactively identify cross-selling opportunities and introduce clients to other areas of the wider business where appropriate.
  • Generate new client enquiries and convert these into advice opportunities.
  • Support local, regional and national sales and marketing initiatives.
  • Provide independent advice in accordance with FCA regulations and internal policies and procedures.
  • Produce high-quality client reports and recommendations using approved processes and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant client records.
  • Ensure advice and client files meet regulatory and internal compliance requirements.
  • Deliver an excellent client experience, ensuring timely communication and responses throughout the advice journey.
  • Develop strong relationships with professional connections and external introducers to generate additional opportunities.
  • Maintain strong technical knowledge through continued professional development.
  • Keep up to date with financial planning legislation, regulation and industry developments.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider business to create a seamless client experience.
  • Contribute ideas and feedback to improve processes, service standards and client outcomes.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Financial Planner who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent relationship management and communication skills.

You will be confident dealing with clients remotely and have the ability to understand their objectives, establish trust and deliver appropriate holistic financial planning solutions.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience working as a Financial Adviser or Financial Planner.
  • Strong experience within wealth management or financial planning.
  • Excellent client relationship management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical competence across the key areas of financial planning.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good time management and the ability to work effectively to deadlines.
  • Confident using Microsoft Word, Excel and client databases.
  • Experience with cash-flow modelling would be advantageous.
  • Previous paraplanning experience would be advantageous.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of relevant FCA regulations.
  • A proactive approach to business development and identifying new client opportunities.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning or Chartered Financial Planner status
  • CAS Status
  • Willingness to work towards further professional qualifications.
