We are seeking an experienced and dependable Group Credit Manager to lead our credit control function based in Middlesborough. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for managing the full credit lifecycle across our group of companies. This role is 100% working in the office - Monday to Friday.

You will be the point of escalation for complex accounts, the mentor for our credit control team, and the person responsible for ensuring our ledger remains clean and our cash flow remains strong. If you have a track record of high-performance debt recovery and team management, we want to hear from you.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Team Management: Oversee a dedicated team of 16 Credit Controllers, providing daily guidance, setting collection targets, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Ledger Management: Take full responsibility for the group's aged debt, ensuring all entities hit their monthly cash collection KPIs.
  • High-Level Collections: Directly manage key 'top-tier' accounts and handle complex reconciliations that require senior-level intervention.
  • Problem Solving: Resolve escalated disputes by working closely with the Sales and Operations teams to ensure payments are unblocked.
  • Legal Action: Manage the process for small claims court and third-party collection agencies for persistent non-payers.
  • Reporting: Prepare weekly and monthly debt reports for the COO and Company Secretary, highlighting any high-risk accounts or significant variances.

What We're Looking For

  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience managing a credit control team, ideally within a multi-site or group environment.
  • Communication: A firm but professional telephone manner and the ability to negotiate effectively with customers at all levels.
  • Resilience: The ability to work under pressure to meet month-end deadlines and maintain a high volume of outbound activity.
  • It would be desirable if you have your CIMA qualification.
