In this Automation and Controls Engineer position, you'll take ownership of designing, programming, integrating, and commissioning advanced automation solutions across a high-performing production environment. You'll work on everything from building PLC code from scratch to integrating robotics, SCADA platforms, networked systems, and Smart Factory technologies.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, engineer, and implement automation and control solutions across plant operations
- Develop PLC programs from scratch using Rockwell/Allen Bradley platforms
- Build and configure HMI and SCADA systems, including GE iFIX and FTView
- Integrate OEM equipment such as robots, label printers, servo drives and specialist automation components
- Lead commissioning activities for new and upgraded plant automation
- Configure industrial networks and integrate automation systems with MES and Smart Factory platforms
- Produce technical documentation, specifications and project scopes
- Oversee contractors and suppliers during automation project delivery
- Ensure all systems meet regulatory and internal engineering standards
- Support digital transformation initiatives across the site
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as an Automation and Controls Engineer within manufacturing or industrial environments
- Strong expertise in Rockwell/Allen Bradley, Siemens, or Mitsubishi PLCs, HMIs and SCADA platforms
- Demonstrable experience developing PLC code and commissioning complex equipment
- Hands-on integration experience with OEM systems including robotics and servo technologies
- Understanding of Smart Factory principles, MES connectivity and industrial networking
- Experience managing automation projects between £500k - £2M
- Ability to travel across EMEA when required (including occasional US visits)
- Degree in Automation, Electrical, Control Systems or related engineering discipline (or equivalent)
- Chartered status desirable but not essential
Pay and Benefits
- Salary: Up to £55,000, plus up to 10% bonus
- Outstanding pension scheme - you contribute 4%, the company contributes 10%
- 37.5 hours per week: Monday to Friday
