JOB SUMMARY

To professionally lead the care team during any span of duty, ensuring that a safe, effective and efficient care service is maintained which meets the needs of children, young people, and stakeholders. To provide care to children and young people with mental health and complex needs in accordance with their assessed needs to an industry leading standard; by adopting a child centred approach that fosters self awareness, personal growth and gives each person the strongest voice with regards to decision making and lifestyle choices. To work as part of a staff team, under the supervision of management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide leadership to the team acting as a positive role model at all times.
  • Manage rotas on a daily basis.
  • Lead the shift, ensuring staff give support that follows individual’s care plans and daily support plans.
  • Provide effective supervision to the Seniors and Support Workers on your team.
  • Provide on call cover as arranged by the Home Manager, working within on call guidance.
  • Motivate, support and mentor the staff when needed.
  • On each shift ensure staff complete all necessary paperwork to an acceptable standard and sign off.
  • To provide the highest quality care and child-centred support to children and young people with learning disabilities and complex needs.
  • To support children and young people in achieving positive outcomes as outlined in their placement plans, and in line with Quality standards.
  • To carry out and complete daily shift planning and handover.
  • To administer medication in line with CAYP health plans.
  • To be responsible for managing daily budgets.
  • To contribute to a positive working and living environment, maintaining professionalism and co-operating as part of a team.
  • To take responsibility for your own training and development, to complete work set and to fully commit to learning opportunities.
  • To promote Children’s Rights and safeguard children and young people’s welfare.
  • To adhere to Health and Safety legislation and policy.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Working with the Management team to ensure that systems and standards are maintained at a high quality level.
  • To be nominated daily shift lead, by planning organising and ensuring completion of team duties for the nominated shift and handover to oncoming shifts.
  • To motivate, support and guidance for staff on duty, on all shifts.
  • To provide on call support for staff, from home on a rota basis.
  • To provide quality supervision and appraisal to nominated staff members in line with staff plans and as designated by the management team.
  • Organising rotas and ensuring correct deployment of staff team, in line with safety and individual homes budgets.
  • To provide high quality care and support for children and young people in residential services and in the community.
  • To identify and follow all policies and procedures including the Codes of Practice for social care, including Quality Standards.
  • To contribute and develop quality care plans for young people.
  • To actively promote and take part in social, leisure, educational, life skills, holidays and other activities with children and young people.
  • To support each young person to maintain a high standard of personal care; including intimate care, personal hygiene, health and sexual health needs and awareness and any mobility support that is needed.
  • To support the medical health needs of children and young people, inclusive of medication administration, medical appointments and therapeutic and mental health and wellbeing needs.
  • To follow and contribute to all child-centred planning, including risk assessments.
  • To assist children and young people in their preferred methods of communication; support them to develop communication skills and communicate need.
  • To contribute to positive behaviour management, including PRICE methods.
  • To keep accurate daily records, following the organisation’s procedures and in line with the Data Protection Act 1998 and confidentiality policy.
  • To help plan and support suitable holidays and activities for children and young people.
  • When required, to drive the company vehicle(s) and to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of such vehicles.
  • When required, to key work and take on those responsibilities, including maintaining all relevant records.
  • Support children and young people to develop independent living skills in line with their placement plan and/or leaving care plan.
  • To keep accurate accounting and recording of financial expenditure and to be responsible for monies when appropriate.
  • To follow individual’s activity planners, menu plans and any shift plans that are in place.
  • To contribute to the maintenance of cleanliness and Health and Safety standards by the completion of daily domestic tasks and record-keeping.
  • To cook and prepare meals for children and young people, ensuring dietary needs are met and Food Hygiene Safety Standards are followed.
  • To ensure regular attendance and contribute to team meetings, fully committing to joint decisions and continuous improvement of the service.
  • To actively participate in supervision, maximising the potential for personal development and overall service development.
  • To attend training when required and to contribute to your own personal development plan.
  • To feedback your knowledge learned to the rest of the staff team when required.
  • To work in accordance with the company’s mobile phone and IT policies.
  • To behave in a manner that reflects positively on the company at all times.
  • To work closely with other members of the team for the ultimate benefit of the people living in the home.
  • Support people to manage their resources and finances.
  • To ensure that you receive all receipts, change and any accompanying paperwork before the end of the shift.
  • To give practical support to individuals in line with their care plan and policy.
  • Ensure Petty Cash and people’s monies are checked, balanced and recorded at the end of your shift.
  • Financial discrepancies must be reported to the manager immediately.
  • To keep updated with all financial policy and procedures.
  • Ensure staff team support children and young people in their education; to assist with homework, encourage skills and provide an appropriate learning environment at home, attend education and support young people in education placement when required.
  • To support children and young people to build and maintain relationships; with families, friends and their wider community.
  • To lead and take part in external reviews and meetings and liaise appropriately with professionals.
  • To immediately alert senior managers of any safeguarding concerns.
  • To contribute to the maintenance and respectful use of equipment within the service, reporting any concerns to manager/maintenance in a timely manner, ensuring safety is of paramount concern.
  • To work unsupervised when required and to follow the organisation’s ‘Lone Working’ policy and procedures, referring matters of importance through the ‘on-call’ system.
  • To be aware of and keep yourself updated regarding the regulatory frameworks within which you work; be that national, local or organisational developments.
  • To undertake any other duties as requested by your line manager.
  • You will be required to work flexibly on a rota basis to meet the needs of the service, this includes weekends, bank holidays and sleep ins.
  • Ensure work is recorded accurately and appropriately in compliance with the company requirements and that records made and personal information used are in compliance with the Data Protection Act and the standards of information governance.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Have at least 2 years experience working with Children and young people in a residential setting who have mental health complex needs, high level of attachment, challenging behaviour which includes verbal and physical aggression, threats to staff, and missing from care.
  • Level 3 Health and Social Care, Children and Young People qualification or equivalent.
