A global engineering business operating in the live events and experiences sector is looking to recruit a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer for its site in Haverhill. The company designs and manufactures complex mechanical systems and structures used in large-scale live events, touring productions and permanent installations worldwide.
This role is aimed at graduates or early-career engineers who want to develop their design capability through real project work, supported by experienced engineers.
The role
This is an entry-level to early-career position within a mechanical engineering design team. You'll work on defined elements of projects under supervision while building both technical and professional engineering skills.
Duties include:
- Supporting mechanical design work from concept through to detailed design
- Producing and updating engineering drawings and basic bills of materials
- Working on assigned assemblies or sub-systems under guidance from senior engineers
- Carrying out engineering calculations using hand calculations, Excel and specialist tools
- Supporting design reviews and implementing feedback
- Assisting with bid and proposal work where required
- Supporting production and project teams during design handover
- Updating drawings from red-lines and responding to manufacturing queries
- Supporting inspections and, where required, Factory Acceptance Testing
- Learning and following company safety, quality and design processes
What you'll need:
- Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Graduate level or up to two years of relevant industry experience
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering drawings
- Interest in mechanical systems, mechanisms and engineered structures
- Willingness to learn and develop technical and communication skills
- Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team
- Basic IT skills, including Excel and CAD software
- Exposure to CAD, FEA or design calculations is beneficial but not essential if you have a solid academic or early-career foundation
