A well-established UK engineering manufacturer is looking to appoint an experienced Manufacturing Supervisor to lead night shift operations at its Engineering Centre of Excellence in Stockport. The business operates in a regulated, safety-critical environment, manufacturing complex engineered systems for specialist and mission-critical applications. Continued investment at the North West site has created a new opportunity to strengthen night shift leadership and shop-floor performance.
The role:
As Manufacturing Supervisor, you’ll take full responsibility for night shift manufacturing activity, ensuring products are delivered safely, on time, and to agreed quality and cost targets. You’ll lead from the floor, manage resources effectively, and maintain clear communication with day shift and senior management. The role operates Monday to Thursday on nights, offering a three-day weekend.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the night shift team in line with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements
- Delivering production output against schedule, quality and cost targets, with clear recovery plans where needed
- Planning and allocating labour and resources to meet productivity and efficiency goals
- Managing attendance, absence, performance and welfare matters in line with company policy
- Developing team capability through training, cross-skilling and competence management
- Reporting daily performance, KPIs and shift handovers to senior management
- Ensuring compliance with Quality Management Systems and resolving non-conformances
- Running start and end of shift briefings and maintaining cross-shift communication
- Maintaining audit-ready shop-floor standards through housekeeping and routine checks
- Supporting workforce redeployment to other production areas when required
What you’ll need:
- Degree or HND in Manufacturing, Engineering or a related discipline
- Proven experience in a Manufacturing Supervisor or Team Leader role
- Background in aerospace, automotive, defence or precision mechanical manufacturing
- Strong focus on safety, ideally with IOSH or NEBOSH certification
- Experience of production scheduling, recovery planning and KPI management
- Ability to plan resources and manage skills and competence matrices
- Working knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP and good general IT skills
- Understanding of MRP processes and maintenance coordination
- Experience delivering performance reviews and driving engagement
- Clear communication style and confidence working cross-functionally
- Full UK driving licence
