A leading engineering organisation is looking for a Mechanical Design & Engineering Manager to oversee the day-to-day performance of a local engineering team, working as part of a wider UK and global function. The role is evenly split between project supervision and people management, requiring a strong mechanical engineering background combined with the leadership and communication skills to develop a high-performing, collaborative team.

What you'll be doing:

  • Project Supervision & Technical Support:
    • Overseeing and supporting engineering projects at local site level
    • Monitoring project progress and ensuring successful delivery
    • Providing guidance on technical risks and escalating issues where required
    • Supporting estimating, bidding, and early project consultation
    • Conducting quality checks and driving continuous improvement
    • Acting as technical escalation point for the team
  • Team Management & Development:
    • Leading and supporting the local Mechanical Design & Engineering team
    • Conducting regular 1:1s, check-ins, and performance discussions
    • Providing coaching, mentoring, and career development support
    • Facilitating training, skills development, and employee growth
    • Managing timesheets, expenses, and system approvals
    • Supporting resource planning and scheduling
    • Representing the team in local leadership forums
