A leading engineering organisation is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its team, working as part of a wider UK and global engineering function. The role is primarily hands–on technical work with an element of mentoring and supporting less experienced engineers, and requires a strong grounding in mechanical engineering principles combined with excellent project oversight and communication skills.

What you'll be doing:

  • Overseeing and delivering mechanical engineering projects from concept through to completion
  • Monitoring project progress and ensuring successful delivery to time and quality targets
  • Providing technical guidance and acting as an escalation point for engineering queries
  • Supporting estimating, bidding, and early project consultation
  • Conducting quality checks and driving continuous improvement across projects
  • Mentoring and supporting junior and mid–level engineers, sharing knowledge and best practice
  • Supporting resource planning and scheduling within the engineering team
  • Contributing to training, skills development, and team growth
  • Representing the engineering function in project and leadership forums as required

What you need:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar technical discipline
  • Proven experience in a senior or lead mechanical design engineering role
  • Exposure to engineering or technology–driven project environments
  • Strong organisational and planning capability with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Calm under pressure with a proactive, solutions–focused approach
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills – able to work cross–functionally and influence constructively
