Paint Shop Supervisor β Β£45,000 to Β£50,000 β Stockport A well-established engineering and defence manufacturing business is seeking an experienced Paint Shop Supervisor to lead operations within their dedicated finishing department at their site in Stockport. This permanent position offers the opportunity to oversee a skilled team, ensuring high-quality finishes are achieved on all products while maintaining safety, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards. The successful candidate will take ownership of daily paint shop activities, driving continuous improvement and supporting the professional development of the team. Key Responsibilities: * Supervise day-to-day paint shop operations to achieve quality, cost, and delivery targets * Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental (SHE) policies and procedures * Manage paint application processes including preparation, spraying, curing, and finishing * Monitor and maintain paint shop equipment, booths, and extraction systems to ensure operational readiness * Lead shift planning, resource allocation, and cross-functional support when required * Conduct daily team briefings and maintain performance tracking (SQCDP boards) * Drive continuous improvement across processes, productivity, and team performance * Oversee inspection of finished products to ensure compliance with specifications and standards * Support staff development through on-the-job coaching, mentoring, and training * Maintain audit readiness and adherence to quality management systems Key Requirements: * NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or manufacturing discipline * Proven supervisory experience within a paint shop or surface finishing environment * Strong understanding of paint application techniques, coatings, and preparation methods * Knowledge of health and safety practices specific to paint shop operations * Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a production team in a fast-paced environment * Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills * Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methods (desirable) * Familiarity with aerospace, automotive, or precision engineering sectors (desirable) This is a hands-on leadership role offering stability, progression, and the chance to make a real impact within a growing organisation.
