A leading engineering organisation is seeking a Mechanical Design & Engineering Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day performance of a local engineering team, working as part of a wider UK and global function. The role focuses on delivering successful projects, developing people, and fostering a high‑performance, collaborative culture.
This position requires a strong grounding in mechanical engineering principles, combined with excellent leadership, communication and project oversight skills. The role is evenly split between project supervision and team management.
Role PurposeTo ensure the effective operation of the Mechanical Design & Engineering team, supporting project delivery, resource planning, team development and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Project Supervision & Technical Support - 50%
- Oversee and support engineering projects within the local site.
- Monitor project progress and ensure successful delivery.
- Provide guidance on technical risks and escape issues when required.
- Support estimating, bidding and early project consultation.
- Conduct quality checks and drive continuous improvement.
- Act as a technical escalation point for the team.
- Team Management & Coaching - 50%
- Lead and support the local Mechanical Design & Engineering team.
- Conduct regular 1:1s, check‑ins and performance discussions.
