We’re representing a leading UK defence engineering manufacturer with over a century of expertise in delivering world-class military vehicle and mechanical systems. As part of ongoing growth within their Engineering Centre of Excellence, they’re seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic to join their assembly team working on complex, high-performance armoured vehicle projects.
About the Role
The primary focus of this role is to support the final assembly process of armoured wheeled vehicles and sub-assemblies, working in accordance with strict engineering, safety, and quality standards. The role is based on day shifts, though some flexibility may be required depending on project demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out final assembly, installation, and inspection of heavy vehicle systems and components.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults.
- Interpret engineering drawings and standard operating procedures.
- Use diagnostic software for system setup, testing, and fault-finding.
- Order parts and materials as required to complete work to specification.
- Complete documentation and attest work through the company MRP system (SAP).
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and support other departments when needed.
- Ensure full compliance with company Health & Safety and quality standards.
- Undertake training and occasional travel (including overseas) as required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and uphold 5S standards within the workplace.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as an HGV/LGV Mechanic or Heavy Vehicle Technician.
- City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or similar.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems including hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and service documentation.
- Confident with diagnostic tools and software.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
