Our client is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Estimator to join their established team in Alfreton. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a long-standing and reputable steel fabrication business, specialising in secondary steel structures across a range of industrial projects. You will play a key role in the commercial function, taking ownership of estimates from initial enquiry through to project handover.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates from technical drawings and specifications. This will include carrying out detailed steel take-offs, building cost analyses, and setting project budgets to support commercial, procurement and delivery teams. This position requires a strong background in structural or secondary steelwork estimating. You must have experience working with secondary steel structures such as platforms, staircases, mezzanines, chimneys and ducting, and be confident interpreting engineering drawings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carrying out detailed steel take-offs from engineering and architectural drawings
- Preparing accurate cost estimates in line with company processes
- Establishing project budgets for internal teams
- Liaising with clients, engineers, suppliers and internal departments
- Supporting continuous improvement of estimating processes and accuracy
Requirements:
- Proven experience in steelwork estimating (essential)
- Strong knowledge of secondary steel structures
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Good understanding of fabrication and construction methods within steelwork
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office
This role is not suited to candidates from general construction, civils, or main contracting backgrounds without direct steel fabrication estimating experience.
