Are you an experienced Hygiene Supervisor with a background in food manufacturing, ready to take the next step in leading a hygiene team? We are recruiting for a Hygiene Supervisor to join a busy food production site in Derby. This is a hands-on supervisory role where you will lead and support a team of Hygiene Operatives, ensuring high standards of cleanliness, food safety, health & safety and compliance are maintained across the site.
You'll be responsible for organising the team, managing daily cleaning schedules, monitoring performance and ensuring hygiene activities are completed safely, accurately and on time. You'll also work closely with Production, Warehouse and site management to ensure hygiene requirements are met and the business is always audit-ready.
As the new Hygiene Supervisor, you will:
- Lead, organise and motivate a team of Hygiene Operatives
- Allocate daily duties and manage hygiene rotas, arranging cover where required
- Ensure hygiene activities are completed in line with production schedules and agreed KPIs
- Work closely with Production and Warehouse teams to provide effective hygiene support
- Monitor hygiene standards across production areas, warehouses and site facilities
- Ensure all hygiene records and documentation are completed accurately and audited daily
- Promote strong health & safety standards across the hygiene team
- Support investigations and disciplinary processes when required
- Assist the Hygiene Manager with performance management and team development
- Support recruitment, onboarding, inductions and training of permanent and temporary hygiene staff
- Prepare reports highlighting current hygiene standards and areas for improvement
- Assist with site preparation for internal, customer and external audits
- Identify opportunities to improve hygiene standards, quality, service and team performance
- Monitor hygiene KPIs and work towards achieving agreed targets
- Support site facilities management with regulatory and legislative compliance
- Assist with the management of cleaning chemicals and consumables, ensuring appropriate stock levels and budget control
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with food safety, quality, H&S and COSHH requirements
Main Requirements for This Role:
- Previous experience supervising a Hygiene team or Hygiene department is essential
- Relevant Food Hygiene qualification to at least Level
- Experience within the food manufacturing industry would be highly advantageous
- Strong understanding of hygiene standards within a food production environment
- Good knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH requirements
- Experience planning and scheduling cleaning or hygiene activities
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage changing priorities
- Good verbal communication and numeracy skills
- IT literate and comfortable completing and maintaining documentation
- Confident leading, motivating and developing a team
- Ability to investigate issues and take appropriate action when required
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards
- Flexible approach to working hours when required to support production schedules, audits and site requirements
- Commitment to food safety, legality, quality and integrity
