Are you a skilled and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer? Do you have experience designing components, mechanisms, and assemblies?
Our client in Derby is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in the design and development of advanced packaging and automation equipment. In this role you will support with projects from initial concept design to final commissioning stages.
As the new Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:
- Provide mechanical engineering expertise from concept through to commissioning
- Support the creation of User Requirement Specifications and Design Specifications
- Design components, mechanisms, and assemblies using SolidWorks
- Select appropriate materials and manufacturing methods for cost-effective, reliable solutions
- Produce detailed CAD drawings with tolerancing and manufacturing notes
- Specify bought-in components and assist with procurement
- Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Develop innovative solutions to engineering challenges
- Research and validate new concepts through prototyping
- Produce and compile technical documentation and Technical Files
- Follow SOPs to ensure controlled and repeatable design processes
- Work to deadlines and agreed project timescales
- Ensure compliance with performance and regulatory standards (including EC Directives and H&S)
- Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
- Maintain high health & safety standards
- Undertake any additional tasks as required by the business
Requirements for the role:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or a related discipline
- Proven experience designing packaging machinery or automation equipment
- Knowledge or experience within medical packaging and/or medical devices (desirable)
- Experience with thermoforming machinery (desirable)
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software
- Good understanding of engineering principles and workshop machinery
- Strong problem-solving ability with a keen eye for detail
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines effectively
- Excellent organisational, communication, and time management skills
About this role:
- Full-time, permanent position
- Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 per year (dependent on experience)
