Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience designing specialist packaging machinery or automated machinery? Do you enjoy taking engineering projects from concept through to build, testing, and commissioning? Our client is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Castle Donington. This is an exciting opportunity to work on bespoke, high-precision machinery used within regulated manufacturing environments, taking ownership of projects throughout the full design lifecycle.

To be considered for this role, candidates must have previous experience designing specialist packaging machinery and automated equipment.

As the new Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:

  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and mechanisms using SolidWorks
  • Lead design projects from initial concept through to manufacture, testing, and commissioning
  • Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, including tolerances and technical specifications
  • Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Prepare engineering documentation and support design specifications
  • Select suitable materials and manufacturing processes to deliver cost-effective solutions
  • Develop and test prototypes to validate new designs
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant Health & Safety standards and EC Directives
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams throughout the build process
  • Contribute to continuous product and design improvements

Main Requirements for This Role:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience designing specialist packaging machinery and automated machinery
  • Strong SolidWorks CAD experience
  • Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes
  • Experience creating detailed engineering drawings and Bills of Materials
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple design projects and meet deadlines

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience within medical packaging or medical device manufacturing
  • Knowledge of thermoforming machinery
  • Experience working within highly regulated manufacturing environments
