We're working with a specialist engineering organisation looking to appoint a Senior Design Engineer to support the delivery of complex electronic and mechanical design projects. This role sits at the heart of engineering and manufacturing, ensuring designs are robust, compliant, and optimised for production. You'll play a key role in driving projects from concept through to delivery, while supporting cross‑functional teams and mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage design projects to deliver against specification, budget, and timelines
- Work closely with sales and internal teams to translate technical requirements into deliverable designs
- Ensure compliance with design gate processes and provide status updates to stakeholders
- Produce and review system‑level designs, schematics, and PCB layouts
- Carry out simulations, analysis, and component selection
- Generate and manage technical documentation including data packs and specifications
- Support production teams with design for manufacture, testing, and debugging
- Lead and participate in peer reviews to ensure design quality and compliance
- Oversee test verification activities including ATP, FAI, and FAT processes
- Maintain and manage component libraries and configuration control
- Drive continuous improvement across design and manufacturing processes
- Support cross‑functional teams including quality, procurement, and project management
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, graduates, and apprentices
Key Requirements
- Strong experience in electronic design engineering, particularly power supply design
- Experience with DC/DC and AC/DC power conversion (low and high power)
- Understanding of EMC/EMI, thermal management, and environmental considerations
- Proven experience with PCB design and schematic capture (Altium preferred)
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including PCB assembly, testing, and mechanical integration
- Experience working within regulated or quality‑driven environments
- Strong understanding of configuration management and design standards
- Ability to produce detailed technical documentation and specifications
- Experience supporting product testing and qualification
