The Material Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and optimising maintenance activities to maximise equipment reliability, engineer productivity, and operational efficiency within an industrial manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the site maintenance planning and scheduling system to ensure efficient use of engineering resources.
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance activities ensuring engineers arrive prepared with the correct parts, tools, permits, and procedures.
  • Maintain a 2–4 week planned maintenance backlog to support proactive maintenance planning.
  • Design and optimise Preventive Maintenance (PM) programmes, consistently achieving >95% PM compliance.
  • Implement Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) techniques including vibration monitoring, thermal inspections, oil analysis, and equipment health checks to detect early signs of failure.
  • Manage and maintain the site asset register, tracking key reliability metrics such as MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) and MTTR (Mean Time to Repair).
  • Analyse equipment failure data to support continuous improvement initiatives and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Manage maintenance work orders through CMMS systems (SAP PM / Maximo / Fiix) ensuring accurate scope, labour allocation, spare parts, tools, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate work to maximise maintenance engineer productivity, targeting 65–75% wrench time.
  • Develop detailed plans for shutdowns and major maintenance activities, working closely with operations teams to minimise production disruption.
