Sales Director
Precision Engineering and CNC Manufacturing
Our client is a high-end precision engineering business manufacturing components for customers across a broad range of sectors. They are looking to appoint a Sales Director to lead new business growth, develop their team of Business Development Managers and bring clear commercial insight to the board.
This is a senior role for someone who can set a sales strategy and stay close to the detail. You will understand which opportunities are worth pursuing, how to build a dependable pipeline and how to win work at the right margin.
The role
Working closely with the Managing Director, Operations Manager and Finance Director, you will:
- Develop and deliver a sales strategy focused on profitable new business and long-term customer relationships.
- Lead, coach and manage a team of Business Development Managers, setting clear targets and supporting them to convert opportunities.
- Identify new markets, customers and applications for the company’s precision engineering capabilities.
- Take ownership of the sales pipeline, ensuring opportunities are accurately qualified, progressed and forecast.
- Present sales performance, forecasts, pipeline health and commercial risks to the board, with clear recommendations for action.
- Work with operations and finance to understand capacity, costing and delivery requirements before committing to new work.
- Review pricing and margins across opportunities, with particular focus on protecting profitability where work is subcontracted.
- Support negotiations on significant contracts and build relationships with key customers and decision-makers.
- Improve sales processes, reporting and accountability so the team has a clear view of performance and priorities.
About you
You will be an experienced sales leader with a track record of winning new business and developing high-performing teams in precision engineering, manufacturing or a closely related sector.
You will be confident discussing technical requirements with customers and commercial performance with the board. Strong forecasting, pipeline management and negotiation skills are essential, as is the ability to look beyond revenue and understand the margin each piece of work delivers.
