Location: HMP Durham | Working Hours: 37 hours/week (08:00‑16:00 Monday‑Thursday, 08:00‑15:30 Friday) | Contract Type: Fixed term until August 2027 | Salary: £25,877.80‑£34,240 (full earning potential)

As a Recovery Coordinator and Family Worker, you will collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team to facilitate recovery planning, case management, and family engagement for substance‑misusing offenders at all stages of their recovery journey.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of service users, devising, implementing and reviewing ongoing recovery plans and treatments.
  • Conduct triage/screening assessments and comprehensive assessments, liaising with peer workers, family members and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to deliver shared assessments and interventions, promoting progression from engagement through structured treatment to self‑sustained recovery.
  • Facilitate access to treatment and community resources, including outreach and collaboration with community services.
  • Maintain risk assessments, risk management plans and safeguarding assessments for service users, families and carers, using an online case‑management system.
  • Produce reports and provide advice to managers and colleagues through meetings, supervision and telephone conversations.
  • Deliver evidence‑based interventions for families (e.g., parental skills, mental health, health and wellbeing) in group and one‑to‑one formats, promoting the Think Family approach.
  • Identify and prevent potential harm to service users and others, following safeguarding guidelines and involving relevant authorities when necessary.
  • Support drug screening, duty work, BBV testing, immunisation, needle exchange and harm‑reduction interventions.
  • Promote peer support opportunities and visible recovery across the service.
  • Assist families during transitions within the prison system, planning for transfer or release in partnership with community and prison‑based services.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of harm‑reduction approaches in substance misuse.
  • Current understanding and ability to implement brief interventions (MI, PSI, CBT, ITEP).
  • Familiarity with best‑practice frameworks (NICE, NHS, NTA, NMC, Care Quality Commission, Caldicott).
  • Experience delivering 1‑2‑1 and group therapeutic interventions.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and resilience in intensive, sometimes stressful, family interactions.
  • Experience working within models of service delivery and recovery planning.
