The Role

At Recorra, our drivers play a vital role in delivering reliable, high-quality waste and recycling services to our customers every day. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Driver Trainer to help shape, support, and develop our driver workforce. This is a hands-on role where you’ll combine your technical LGV expertise with coaching and mentoring skills to ensure our drivers are safe, compliant, and confident in their roles. You will play a key part in onboarding new starters, maintaining high standards across our operations, and supporting continuous improvement across our fleet. Working closely with our Fleet and Health & Safety teams, you’ll be instrumental in building a strong, safety-first culture while helping our drivers deliver the best possible service to our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver structured induction training for new drivers and drivers mates
  • Provide ongoing training, coaching and support to drivers across the business
  • Conduct driver assessments (pre-employment and ongoing competency)
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, identifying root causes and delivering follow-up training
  • Carry out on-road supervision and site-based checks to ensure compliance with company standards
  • Complete gate checks, audits and paperwork reviews
  • Deliver manual handling training and regular toolbox talks
  • Carry out customer site visits to review working practices and support operational improvements
  • Work closely with the Health & Safety Manager to maintain and improve safety standards
  • Develop and maintain training materials and guidance for drivers
  • Supporting vehicle movements and minor operational tasks where required
  • Providing route cover during peak periods or absence

About You

  • Valid Class C (LGV) licence, Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph card
  • Proven experience as an LGV Driver Trainer or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of: Driver hours, tachographs and Working Time Directive, DVSA standards and driver safety best practice
  • Experience delivering structured training, inductions and assessments
  • Good understanding of the waste industry, including RCV, skip and RORO vehicles
  • Confident communicator with the ability to coach, influence and support drivers at all levels
  • Able to work independently and manage your own workload effectively
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and maintaining training records
