About the role
Looking for a role where no two days are the same? As our Waste Supervisor, you'll play a key role in keeping the University of Hertfordshire sites running smoothly, leading a dedicated team that delivers essential waste management and recycling services across campus. Working 32.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, you'll champion sustainability by helping maximise recycling rates, ensuring waste is managed safely and efficiently, and supporting both the CBRE and University management teams.
You'll also oversee a range of added-value site services, building strong relationships with stakeholders and driving best practice every day. If you're a hands-on leader who enjoys making a visible impact, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and motivate the on-site recycling team, ensuring a safe, efficient, and high-quality service.
- Manage day-to-day waste and recycling operations, keeping the site running smoothly and productively.
- Build strong relationships with CBRE, the University of Hertfordshire, and key stakeholders across campus.
- Drive sustainability by maximising recycling rates and reducing general waste.
- Identify and implement improvements to enhance service efficiency and performance.
- Proactively resolve operational challenges and support business continuity planning.
- Keep stakeholders informed with regular updates, service information, and improvement opportunities.
- Champion health, safety, and compliance, ensuring best practice is followed at all times.
What we need from you
- A full UK driving licence
- Proven experience within waste management, recycling, or environmental services.
- Previous experience leading, motivating, and developing a team.
- Experience working in a large-scale operational, manufacturing, facilities, or site-based environment.
- A hands-on approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused mindset.
