About the role: As a Shift Leader, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our site operates safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Leading by example, you’ll oversee day-to-day performance across safety, quality, customer service, cost, and people. You’ll be the first point of escalation for issues on shift, ensuring rapid and effective decision-making that keeps our production lines running smoothly. This is a hands-on leadership position where you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, drive continuous improvement, and help create a positive, high-performance environment on the shop floor.

Your responsibilities:

  • Lead your shift to meet all safety, GMP and quality standards, ensuring compliance, completing walk-arounds, and championing a safe working culture.
  • Manage customer service performance by ensuring product flow, addressing bottlenecks, coordinating with relevant functions, and preventing disruptions to production.
  • Monitor cost performance by completing regular performance reviews, managing adherence to line targets, and escalating issues when required.
  • Drive team performance through coaching, feedback, daily performance management, and managing labour utilisation across your area.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of shift reports, escalations, investigations and handovers.
  • Lead initial responses to safety, quality, and performance issues — ensuring control, documenting actions, and escalating appropriately.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including waste reduction, process optimisation, and problem-solving activities.
  • Maintain strong cross-functional communication with Quality, Planning, Warehouse, Engineering and other site teams.

The experience we’re looking for:

  • Proven leadership experience within a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, FMCG or similarly regulated environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of safety behaviours, GMP, and high-speed production or packaging operations.
  • Experience managing and developing people, with the ability to coach, motivate and drive performance.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities and making effective decisions under pressure.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, root-cause identification, and taking decisive corrective actions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence others at all levels.
  • Good IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint).
  • GCSE-level education (or equivalent) — desirable but not essential.
  • Willingness to undertake internal leadership training (e.g., Embark).
