We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading UK Main Contractor with a turnover exceeding £500 million. With over 20 years in the industry, they’ve built a strong reputation for long-term partnerships and delivering high-quality construction and refurbishment projects across the UK.

This opportunity is within their specialist refurbishment division, which operates across London and the Southeast. Their diverse project portfolio includes work for local authorities, housing associations, and both public and private sector clients. Project types span residential, education, student accommodation, leisure, regeneration, retirement living, and extra care—with values ranging from £5 million to £100+ million.

Backed by a strong senior leadership team with proven industry experience, they are now seeking a Document Controller to join their growing project team.

Role Overview

As Document Controller, you will be responsible for managing all documentation processes across live and upcoming refurbishment projects. This includes overseeing document control for social housing refurbishment, SHDF, retrofit, recladding, and internal upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain robust document control procedures.
  • Administer and maintain the Document Management System (Viewpoint 4Projects & Field View).
  • Manage document workflows—both electronic and physical.
  • Ensure documents are formatted, issued, reviewed and archived in accordance with company and project standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and registers for all project documentation.
  • Coordinate distribution of approved documents and drawings to internal teams, clients, and third parties.
  • Upload files in multiple formats across various document platforms.
  • Support the collation and submission of QA documentation to clients.
  • Liaise with project teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure document control consistency.
  • Monitor technical documentation review cycles to ensure timely approvals.
  • Establish and maintain the Master Document Register in collaboration with the project team.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, registers, and other project-related documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation standards and version control protocols.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a document control role, preferably within the construction or refurbishment sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of Viewpoint 4Projects and Field View.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders across different projects.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to document quality and compliance.
