The Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Quantity Surveyor / Project Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Central London. This is primarily an office-based role (five days per week), with regular site visits as required.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the commercial management of various projects from procurement through to final account, ensuring financial performance, contractual compliance, and successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the commercial management of construction projects, including budgets, cost planning, forecasting, and reporting
- Administer contracts (JCT/NEC/bespoke), ensuring compliance and effective risk management
- Manage procurement processes, including preparing tender enquiries, analysing returns, negotiating, and appointing subcontractors
- Oversee subcontractor packages, including valuations, variations, and final accounts
- Monitor and control project costs, identifying risks and opportunities to maximise value
- Prepare and submit interim valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts
- Manage variations, change control processes, and cost reporting
- Provide commercial input into project planning, value engineering, and decision-making
- Work closely with project managers, site teams, and senior commercial staff to ensure projects are delivered within budget and programme
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date commercial records and documentation
- Contribute to monthly reporting and financial reviews
Requirements:
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related construction discipline
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor (typically 3–6+ years) within a main contractor or subcontractor environment
- Strong working knowledge of standard forms of contract, particularly JCT and/or NEC
- Demonstrable experience managing packages and project finances independently
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage costs and drive value
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks and meet deadlines
- Proactive, organised, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team
