A primary school in Muswell Hill, North London is recruiting an experienced Teaching Assistant to provide specialist 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and ADHD. This role is part-time, working five mornings per week from 8:30am to 12:30pm, with a start date of 23rd February 2026.
This is a highly demanding role that requires a confident, calm, and resilient practitioner. The child has a short attention span, significant behavioural needs, and can display physically challenging behaviour, meaning this post is not suitable for inexperienced Teaching Assistants.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will deliver learning primarily on a 1:1 basis, following a highly structured and individualised timetable. The role requires someone who can think quickly, adapt tasks in the moment, and maintain consistent routines and boundaries throughout the morning.
The successful Teaching Assistant will:
- Have extensive experience supporting ASC and ADHD as a Teaching Assistant
- Confidently manage challenging and physical behaviour
- Use declarative language and trauma-informed approaches
- Maintain calm authority, consistency, and structure
- Communicate effectively with teachers, the SENCo, and parents
- Attend paid in-house training when required
Desirable experience:
- Background in special schools, PRUs, or specialist SEND provisions
- Positive handling or Team Teach training
- Experience contributing to IEPs, EHCP reviews, and professional reports
