About Muntons

Our customers range from multi-national food and beverage producers, top start-ups, and small independent craft brewers and distillers.
This role comes at a particularly exciting time for Muntons. We have recently invested over £13 million in our grain intake and maltings facility, now regarded as one of the best in the industry. We are looking for a motivated and experienced Multi-Skilled Engineering Shift Team Leader to guide our engineering team, support production, and help maintain our high standards as the business continues to grow.
The Role
As a Multi-Skilled Engineering Shift Team Leader, you will lead and coordinate a team of engineers on shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our Grain Intake and Malting plants. You will work closely with Production and Engineering colleagues to minimise downtime, deliver planned maintenance, and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Coordination
- Lead toolbox talks and provide clear direction to engineers and labourers.
- Plan and prioritise engineering work, liaising with Production Managers, Supervisors, and Operators to ensure access and continuity.
- Attend daily production meetings and provide clear updates on engineering activity and hand-back times.
- Support team members with technical guidance, problem-solving, and wellbeing issues (work-related or personal).
- Approve or reject holiday and lieu time requests via the Softworks system.
- Maintenance & Reliability
- Oversee planned, preventative, predictive, and breakdown maintenance using the CMMS.
- Allocate and schedule PM tasks, taking account of skills, holidays, and absenteeism.
- Support repairs and breakdowns hands-on when required, particularly during resourcing challenges.
- Ensure outstanding PMs are maintained below agreed targets.
- Apply root cause analysis to reduce production downtime and improve reliability.
- Participate in shutdown maintenance and plant modifications.
- Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Promote and enforce high standards of health & safety, ensuring safe systems of work and permit compliance.
- Ensure food safety, hygiene, and housekeeping standards are consistently met across workshops and plant areas.
- Manage engineering contractors on site, ensuring legal and company compliance.
- Ensure all work and spare parts usage is fully documented in Shire and associated systems.
- Continuous Improvement & Development
- Identify and implement improvement opportunities in maintenance practices and plant performance.
- Support and contribute to engineering projects, delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
- Develop team capability through coaching, training, and skills development.
- Act as a role model for professional behaviours, standards, and accountability.
What We're Looking For
- ONC, City & Guilds Level II/III, or BTEC National Diploma Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Proven engineering background with strong electrical and mechanical capability.
- Experience leading or supervising multi-skilled engineering teams.
- Certificate of Malting Competence (or willingness to achieve).
