Muntons is a leading global supplier to the food and drinks industry, producing around 240,000 tonnes of malted products each year. Our customers range from multinational drinks companies to regional food producers and independent craft brewers across the world. Malt is essential to beer and whisky production and is also a key ingredient in a wide range of food, drink, and baking applications.
This role comes at a particularly exciting time for Muntons. We have recently invested over £13 million in our grain intake and maltings facility, now regarded as one of the best in the industry. We are looking for a proactive and reliable Engineering Labourer to join our Malt Engineering team. You will play a key role in supporting the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of our Flamborough Maltings and waste water treatment plant, with occasional support required at our Huggate Peating Plant. This is a hands-on role involving general maintenance, basic mechanical repairs, plant lubrication, and ensuring high standards of housekeeping within engineering areas.
Location: Flamborough Maltings (with occasional support at Huggate Peating Plant)
Reports to: Engineering Manager / Engineering Team Leader
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, flexible working. Potential Saturday and Sunday cover. Potential Day 2 shift cover. Potential Hybrid hours to assist around Children transport to school (Management approval).
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with the Engineering Team Leader and Engineering Manager to prioritise tasks effectively
- Update and complete tasks on the CMMS (Shire system), including planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and breakdown support
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and organised engineering workshop at the start and end of each shift
- Work flexibly to meet changing operational demands, including covering other departments when required
General Maintenance
- Support operators with equipment checks (e.g. Germination Vessels)
- Carry out basic repairs within your skillset
- Assist with plant modifications and lubrication
- Contribute to maintenance activities during plant shutdowns
Follow planned maintenance schedules
- Identify and replace failed bearings (motors, conveyors, elevators, shafts)
- Carry out repairs on conveyors, elevator systems, and shafts
- Lubricate, adjust and tension equipment components
- Perform inspections and repairs to dust and conveying systems
- Support advanced maintenance tasks where trained
Plant Hygiene & Housekeeping
- Ensure tools and equipment are removed from production areas after work
- Maintain high housekeeping standards in all engineering areas
- Manage spills safely and minimise risks
Administration
- Respond to internal maintenance requests and provide updates
- Accurately log work and time on CMMS
- Correctly identify and request spare parts
Key Skills & Attributes
- Basic engineering or mechanical aptitude
- Ability to carry out general repairs (e.g. patching, painting, basic maintenance)
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently
- Flexible and adaptable approach to work
- Good communication and organisational skills
- High attention to detail and pride in work
- Proficient in using systems (e.g. CMMS, SCADA; training can be provided)
- Reliable, dependable, and professional
Performance Measures (KPIs)
- Delivery of planned maintenance to minimise downtime
- Maintain fewer than 12 outstanding PMs and tasks per week
- Accurate logging of all work on CMMS
- Effective communication and handover of tasks
Qualifications & Experience Essential (or desirable):
- Engineering or mechanical background (advantageous)
- Experience in DIY mechanics, maintenance, or groundworks
- Practical, hands-on skills
