I’m currently working with a fast-growing, financially backed wholesale and trading business that is entering an exciting new phase of growth.

Following the successful launch of their sportswear division, they are now looking to appoint an entrepreneurial Head of FMCG Commercial to build and lead a new category from the ground up.

You’ll have significant autonomy to use your market knowledge, industry relationships and commercial judgement to identify opportunities, negotiate deals and build a profitable FMCG Commercial division.

This is not a traditional corporate buying role.

The successful candidate will be someone who understands their market, knows where the opportunities are and has the commercial instinct to turn those opportunities into profitable transactions.

You’ll be responsible for building your own pipeline, developing supplier and customer relationships, sourcing stock and taking ownership of the revenue and profitability of your category.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take full commercial ownership of building and growing the FMCG division.
  • Identify, source and execute profitable trading opportunities across the UK.
  • Develop relationships with brands, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, wholesalers and other industry contacts.
  • Source clearance, surplus, excess, end-of-line, cancelled-order and discounted stock.
  • Build and manage a strong pipeline of potential deals.
  • Assess stock, pricing, demand, margins and market conditions.
  • Lead supplier and customer negotiations and agree commercially viable terms.
  • Identify the best routes to market for available stock.
  • Develop new supplier and customer accounts.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing and competitor activity.
  • Make fast, commercially sound decisions in a dynamic trading environment.
  • Take ownership of revenue, margin and profitable category growth.
  • Help develop the processes, relationships and infrastructure required to scale the division.
  • Work closely with the wider business while maintaining ownership of your trading decisions.

About You

We’re looking for someone with genuine FMCG market knowledge, commercial ability and an established network.

You may currently be a

  • Trader / Senior Trader
  • Buyer / Senior Buyer
  • Wholesale Manager
  • Category Manager / Category Specialist
  • Commercial Manager
  • FMCG Trading Specialist
  • Wholesale Business Owner
  • Entrepreneur

Your current job title is less important than your ability to find opportunities and turn them into profitable deals.

Ideally, you’ll have

  • Proven experience in FMCG trading, buying, wholesale or a similar commercial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of your product category and the wider market.
  • An established network of relevant suppliers, customers or industry contacts.
  • A track record of identifying and converting commercial opportunities.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent commercial judgement around stock, pricing, demand and margin.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and the confidence to operate autonomously.
  • The ability to move quickly and make commercially sound decisions.
  • A natural instinct for spotting opportunities others may overlook.
  • The resilience and drive to build a category from the ground up.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to build something rather than simply manage something that already exists.

You’ll have the autonomy to develop your own category, build your network and create a significant revenue stream within a financially backed business with established technology, AI and operational infrastructure.

As the division grows, there is the potential to build a team and progress into a wider commercial leadership position.

If you’re commercially driven, entrepreneurial and excited by the prospect of building a new FMCG division, we’d like to hear from you.
