About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Data Center Technician for freelance/contract work in Dumfries, United Kingdom. This is an on-site position supporting network and IT infrastructure at business-critical sites in and around Dumfries.
Compensation
£17-23/hr (GBP hourly)
Rates vary based on experience level and project complexity. Emergency and after-hours work may qualify for premium rates.
Engagement Type
Contract/Freelance basis
Multi-day site projects, typically 2 days from 09:00 to 16:00, working alongside a second engineer
Project-based or ongoing support
Remote hands and smart hands services
Key Responsibilities
- Install and connect network equipment and security appliances in comms rooms and network cabinets (MDF/IDF)
- Perform hardware installations, decommissions, and migrations
- Execute structured cabling (copper and fiber optic)
- Conduct racking, stacking, and labeling
- Perform patch panel and switch port work
- Troubleshoot connectivity and hardware issues
- Document all work with photos and detailed notes
- Coordinate with remote NOC and client teams
