We are on the lookout for a Lead Level Designer to join a passionate and expanding Design team developing a new and exciting sci-fi IP with an attitude and philosophy based on by high levels of trust, autonomy, and collaboration.
As a Lead Level Designer, you will lead a team of designers on a brand-new project from pre-production to shipping, overseeing the development of the level design. You\’ll collaborate with the Head of Design, Designers, Producers, and Programmers to balance creative vision with production realities.
Growth is a big part of the team\’s philosophy, and we try to encourage people to learn new skills and work towards their career goals. You will help facilitate and encourage learning within the team and be a key point of contact should anyone feel they need assistance should they be struggling.
This exciting opportunity can be based out of either of our studios in Oxford or Warwick, offering flexibility, collaboration, and the chance to work with a world-class team! We can provide a relocation package, including moving assistance, temporary accommodation, and full support to ensure a smooth transition to your new environment.
We believe in the power of face-to-face collaboration and encourage working from our studios. However, we understand that flexibility matters, so we\’re open to discussing hybrid options based on individual needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Level Designers with best practice people management techniques, proactively manage your team\’s performance and professional development through performance review cycles giving constructive, actionable, relevant feedback
- Collaborate with Production, the Art Director and Design Director to balance creative vision with production realities
- Verify the quality of level design in the game, and make improvements where necessary to fit technical constraints and artistic direction
- Conduct gameplay evaluations with the Design Director, Lead Game Designer and Producer with the team providing feedback and suggestions to help fine-tune and improve the game
- Be an active mentor and role model for the Design team. Work to maintain morale and create an atmosphere of creativity and enthusiasm
Requirements
- Expert knowledge of the video game development process, including working in a timely / time-bound manner, and prototyping/iterating appropriately within that restriction
- Expert knowledge of production pipelines
- Expert knowledge of creating level design documents and prototype specifications
- Proactively ensure the level design serves the audience of the game, is appropriate to the state of the market and effectively uses the resources available
- Able to focus on individuals and teams to achieve a specific outcome to drive performance
- Able to apply an understanding of the games industry to improve the effectiveness of teams and projects
- Able to develop resolutions to unusually challenging problems and mentor individuals and teams to solve problems creatively
