We want you to #JOINTHEREBELLION! For 30 years we’ve been creating incredible video games at our multiple studios, but Rebellion is more than just games. We have our own film studio, we create board games, publish books, and through 2000AD, publish comics and graphic novels such as the amazing Judge Dredd.
We're looking for a Graduate VFX Artist who is looking to start their career in games and join a passionate and growing VFX team and work on an exciting new large-scale project, crafted by a seasoned team renowned for developing exceptional shooters. The VFX team is responsible for all visual effects developed in Rebellion's games, including particle effects, screen post effects, material effects, mesh destruction effects, and UI effects, developed in Rebellion's proprietary engine “Asura”.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the creation of real-time visual effects, working from clear briefs and inspiring references.
- Prepare source assets, textures, flipbooks, and meshes, ready for use in particle systems.
- Bring effects to life in-engine, test them in gameplay, and troubleshoot to ensure they perform as intended.
- Build your knowledge of studio pipelines, performance budgets, and the fundamentals of profiling.
- Take part in regular reviews, embrace feedback as part of your growth, and keep project files clean and organised.
This exciting opportunity can be based out of any of our studios in Oxford or Warwick, offering flexibility, collaboration, and the chance to work with a world‑class team! Qualifications:
- A recent graduate (or equivalent) with a portfolio that highlights real-time visual effects, showing strong timing, clarity, and a creative spark.
- Comfortable working with tools such as Blender, Photoshop, Substance, and After Effects (or equivalent software).
- A solid grasp of particle system basics, including sprite and flipbook creation, as well as texture workflows for games.
- Curious and confident in exploring tools like Houdini and Embergen (or similar) to build flipbook simulations.
- An understanding of 2D particle texture creation techniques and how they bring effects to life in real time.
- The ability to turn concept art and reference material into effects that feel exciting and believable in-game.
- Any extra experience, whether from game jams, mods, internships, or professional projects, as well as familiarity with source control systems, will be seen as a valuable bonus.
