Shape the future of electric aviation. We're developing a next-generation eVTOL aircraft and are looking for a Principal Certification Engineer to lead the airborne software and hardware certification strategy for one of the most exciting aerospace programmes in the world. This is a rare opportunity to join at an early stage, taking ownership of the certification approach while helping build the processes, standards and future team that will support aircraft type certification across GCAA, EASA and FAA regulations.

You'll be the technical authority for development assurance, working across safety-critical fly-by-wire flight controls, electric propulsion and battery management systems, ensuring compliance with DO-178C and DO-254 from planning through to certification. We're ideally looking for someone with experience across both airborne software and airborne electronic hardware certification. However, if your expertise is primarily in DO-178C software certification and you're excited to broaden your knowledge into DO-254 hardware certification, we'd still love to hear from you. You'll need to be someone who enjoys learning, thrives in technically challenging environments and is motivated to expand your expertise across both disciplines.

This is a genuinely hands-on role today, with a clear pathway into leading the Software & Hardware Certification function as the business grows.

What you'll be doing:

  • You'll own the certification strategy and execution for airborne software and hardware, working closely with engineering teams, safety specialists and certification authorities to deliver successful aircraft type certification.
  • You'll develop certification plans, lead SOI audits, produce certification evidence, establish development assurance processes and mentor engineers as the organisation scales.

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Strong experience with DO-178C airborne software certification, ideally through multiple certification programmes.
  • Experience with DO-254 airborne electronic hardware certification, or a strong desire and aptitude to develop this expertise if your background is software-focused.
  • Experience working with certification authorities or delegated representatives through audits and compliance activities.
  • A solid understanding of development assurance within safety-critical aerospace systems.
  • The confidence to influence engineering teams, establish best practice and grow into a technical leadership role.

Why Join Us?

This is far more than a certification role. You'll have the opportunity to influence how an entire engineering organisation approaches development assurance, build capability from the ground up and play a pivotal role in bringing a revolutionary aircraft to market. If you're looking for a position where your technical expertise genuinely shapes the future of aviation, and where you'll have the opportunity to grow your own leadership career, we'd love to hear from you. We welcome diverse applicants and are dedicated to treating all applicants with dignity and respect, regardless of background.
