You love software engineering. You love data. You love people. Bringing all these loves together into one role is what you’re looking for. Look no further - you’ve found your next role!

The company I’m recruiting for is a household name - they’re a global enterprise with a strong local presence in Nottingham. I am looking for an Engineering Manager to head up a team of 7-8 Software Engineers in building a supreme data platform that is very visible and important for the company; it will form the foundation for other, bigger initiatives over the next few years.

You’ll have a strong technical background in software engineering, ideally with some data flavour to it. This is a hands-off role but you’ll need to be able to hold your own in technical conversations, 1-2-1s, reviews, etc. so if you’ve been solely focussed on delivery for years and years, this probably isn’t the role for you.

You’re the kind of person who has a natural zest for life, optimism for the future, and someone who can bring people together towards a common goal and set them up for excellence. You have an abundance mindset; getting straight to the point of helping someone with a problem they have to solve; a true collaborator who believes that there are plenty of successes, resources, and opportunities for everyone. If you see something that needs fixing or making better, you’ll use your initiative and get on with resolving it!

From a tech perspective, it would be most excellent if you’ve come from an AWS, Apache AirFlow, Python, Spark type of environment and understand these technologies (or alternatives) and what they do. You’ll still be considered if you’ve not used/been in an environment with these specific technologies though!

If this sounds good to you, please apply now or drop me a line to find out more! We welcome diverse applicants and are dedicated to treating all applicants with dignity and respect, regardless of background.

How to prepare for a job interview at Rebel Recruitment Limited

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Rebel Recruitment Limited uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
