Are you ready to lead the avionics architecture on a next-generation aerospace programme where your technical decisions will shape the aircraft from concept through certification? We're looking for a Chief Engineer – Avionics & Flight Systems to take ownership of the complete avionics architecture, defining the fly-by-wire flight control system, avionics data bus, cockpit and human-machine interface, sensor suite, and detect-and-avoid capability.
This is a pivotal leadership role where you'll ensure the aircraft achieves piloted certification while designing an architecture that can support future autonomous capability through carefully planned physical provisions. Working at the heart of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll influence critical programme decisions that extend well beyond avionics. The flight control authority you define will establish the structural loads envelope, making your work fundamental to the aircraft's overall design, safety, and certification strategy. You'll collaborate closely with systems, structures, software, and certification specialists to deliver an integrated solution that meets demanding regulatory standards.
This opportunity is suited to someone who has personally led avionics and flight control system architecture on a certified fly-by-wire aircraft programme. You'll understand how certification requirements influence engineering decisions and be comfortable balancing innovation with the discipline needed to achieve regulatory approval.
You’ll bring:
- 15+ years' experience delivering certified avionics and flight control systems.
- Proven ownership of flight control system architecture on a fly-by-wire aircraft with no mechanical reversion.
- Strong expertise in DO-178C, DO-254 and ARP4754B, with an understanding of how they shape avionics architecture and development assurance.
- Experience with detect-and-avoid technologies, including sensor integration and regulatory considerations.
- The ability to lead complex technical decisions across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Experience in eVTOL, distributed electric propulsion, autonomy-ready avionics architectures, or cockpit human factors for emergency service aircraft would be advantageous.
