Role Overview
We are looking for a commercially sharp, autonomous Merchandiser to take ownership of the numbers behind the range: planning stock to demand, monitoring performance and turning data into clear, actionable recommendations for the wider leadership team, translating strategic direction into day-to-day trading discipline.
This is a hands‑on role for someone who can combine strong analytical and trading skills with creative range development and a practical, collaborative approach. You will work directly with an assistant merchandiser and head of merchandiser plus wider stakeholders including the Founder, Product team, Marketing & eCommerce and Operations teams, with your analysis and recommendations directly influencing range, pricing, stock and investment decisions.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, taking ownership of the merchandising function, supporting budget delivery through effective stock planning and building structure and processes as the business continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
Trading & Performance
- Own weekly and monthly trade reporting including KPIs, category performance and product-level analysis.
- Identify key trends, risks and opportunities and recommend appropriate actions.
- Highlight slow and best sellers, stock cover issues and emerging opportunities early.
- Maintain accurate category, product, age and margin classifications to support effective reporting.
Stock & Range Planning
- Own and maintain the WSSI, reviewing actuals against plan and reforecasting where required.
- Manage OTB and stock cover by category and SKU, balancing availability, sales opportunity and cash investment.
- Work with Buying and Product teams to plan stock requirement by category.
- Agree launch dates and sales expectations for new products with the wider product team.
- Maintain linecards for continuity products.
- Ensure top‑down plans and bottom‑up product requirements align, making adjustments where necessary.
Intake & Supplier Management
- Monitor the critical path from order through to delivery ensuring timely shipping, liaising with suppliers and internal teams proactively flagging risks to intake to ensure product arrives on time in line with the trading plan.
- Balance supplier MOQs and lead time requirements with demand and stock levels
- Provide data‑led input into supplier discussions around cost, margin, volume and availability.
Cross-Functional Working
- Work closely with Logistics and Goods‑In to manage inbound stock flow.
- Liaise with Marketing and eCommerce to ensure promotional and trading activity reflects stock availability.
- Communicate trading performance and recommendations clearly to non‑merchandising stakeholders.
Team & Process Development
- Manage and develop junior merchandising support, delegating tasks, quality‑checking outputs and increasing their responsibility over time.
- Maintain and improve merchandising reporting and processes as the business grows.
- Support the development of scalable systems and processes, including future ERP improvements.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years experience at Merchandiser level, ideally within homeware, fashion or another product‑led retail/DTC business.
- Strong Excel and analytical skills with experience working with WSSI, OTB, Range Planning and margin analysis.
- Commercially minded with the ability to turn data into clear conclusions and recommended actions.
- Confident working independently and taking ownership of decisions and deliverables.
- Experience working with international suppliers and cross‑functional teams.
- Experience managing or mentoring junior team members.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑growing business where processes and systems are continually evolving.
- Experience with Shopify Plus and an ERP system would be advantageous.
What Success Looks Like
- Trade reporting is accurate, timely and actively used to drive decisions across the business.
- Stock is aligned to demand with continuous availability on continuity products, managed sell through on slow movers and optimised inventory investment.
- Risks and opportunities are identified early and acted upon.
- Range, stock and investment decisions are supported by clear commercial analysis.
- Junior team members continue to develop in confidence and capability.
- You are collaborative and work well with a broad range of stakeholders: Founder, Product & Merchandising Leads, Customer Service, Design, Warehouse and Finance.
- Merchandising is seen as a trusted commercial partner across the business.
