Niche military litigation, build expertise in NIHL and NFCI from day one. Run your own files early, with support from a highly specialist team. Hybrid working (3 days office / 2 home) with clear long-term progression. This Manchester-based role offers something genuinely different from a standard personal injury position.
You’ll join a specialist military claims team acting for service personnel bringing claims against the Ministry of Defence, work that’s both technically challenging and personally meaningful. From the outset, you’ll be trusted with your own caseload, particularly involving military deafness and non-freezing cold injuries. These are highly technical claims, often involving complex causation issues linked to training conditions, equipment or environmental exposure.
You’ll be reviewing medical evidence, engineering reports and military documentation, building a depth of expertise that’s difficult to find elsewhere at this level. As you develop, you’ll take on more complex matters and play a bigger role in case strategy, working closely with counsel, experts and senior lawyers. The team is known for taking cases further than most, so you’ll gain exposure to litigation that others might not pursue, and develop the confidence that comes with it.
The culture is collaborative and purpose-driven. There’s a strong sense that the work matters, combined with a supportive environment where junior lawyers are given responsibility without being left on their own. If you’re looking to specialise early and work on cases that genuinely impact people’s lives, this is a strong step forward.
Who we’re looking for:
- Solicitor with 1-3 PQE
- Experience in military, serious injury, industrial disease or clinical negligence work
- Ability to manage your own caseload with appropriate supervision
- Experience in claimant litigation
- Strong analytical skills, particularly around medical or technical evidence
- Collaborative and team-oriented approach
- Interest in developing a niche specialism in military claims
What you’ll be doing:
- Running your own caseload of military injury claims
- Taking initial client instructions and drafting witness statements
- Reviewing medical records, expert reports and technical evidence
- Managing disclosure and preparing court documentation
- Liaising with clients, counsel and experts
- Preparing schedules of loss and advising on settlement offers
- Supporting senior lawyers on more complex and high-value cases
- Delivering clear, empathetic client care throughout the claims process
