As we continue to expand, we are seeking a Data Engineer who will play a key role on the data pipeline to build and support our customer reporting capabilities.
The Role:
Our offices are in Trafford Park, Manchester and the role consists of hybrid working, where we ask for our team to be in the office for collaboration and team building 2 days per week. The rest of the week is up to you; deep focus at home, or more of the same!
Your primary responsibilities will involve developing and maintaining a mix of real time and batch ETL jobs on a large and complex dataset. You will apply strong Python and SQL skills to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and scalability, while also engaging in continuous improvements to develop innovative and scalable data solutions. After a suitable settling in period, you will also join our out of hours on call team, for which you will receive additional compensation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Gathering and understanding requirements to be able to manage and organise priorities effectively.
- Continually review and measure the performance of the data pipeline and evaluate improvements in design, architecture and tooling.
- Design and develop ETL, infrastructure as code and automation scripts that meet industry best practices and standards.
- Supporting and identifying improvements to the deployed production systems to ensure high application uptime and stability.
- Monitoring application performance to handle increases in scale and data volumes.
- Maintaining clear documentation for datasets, logic, processes and known issues.
- Collaborate with internal engineering, product and operations teams to align on scope and deliverables.
- Adhering to Company Policies and Procedures with respect to Security, Quality and Health & Safety.
About You:
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- 3+ years of professional SQL and Python development experience as a Data Engineer, using AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience using Apache Spark (scala or python), preferably on AWS using Elastic MapReduce (EMR).
- Strong analytical and communication skills to take a data driven approach in presenting decisions to stakeholders.
- Someone who loves to problem-solve and break down complex problems, whilst working on large and complex datasets.
- The ability to be flexible and agile, ready to adapt to changes when things don’t go to plan.
- Knowledge of agile software development best practices including continuous integration, automated testing and working with software engineering requirements and specifications.
- Good interpersonal skills, positive can-do attitude and willing to help other members of the team.
- Exposure to using AI tools to enhance productivity and quality of coding, reviews and documentation.
