We’re looking for an Android Technical Lead to own and evolve our Android apps and SDKs.
The Role: This is a hands‑on role where you will:
- Lead the technical direction for our Android solutions
- Design and implement complex features, working with Kotlin, Java and C++/NDK to build reliable, high‑performance components
- Stay ahead of Android OS & Google Play changes and lead our response to them
- Collaborate with product, data, and client teams to deliver robust solutions
- Mentor other engineers, run design and code reviews, and champion best practices
- Leverage and be open to AI-coding tools to increase productivity, reduce boilerplate and enhance code quality
Our offices are in Trafford Park, Manchester and the role consists of hybrid working, where we ask for our team to be in the office for collaboration and team building 2 days per week. The rest of the week is up to you; deep focus at home, or more of the same!
Key Responsibilities:
- Owning the architecture and implementation of our Android app and SDKs
- Collaborating with product teams and implementing high-quality solutions for our specifications
- Supporting client teams with SDK integrations and troubleshooting production issues
- Improving test coverage, observability, and reliability across a wide device base
- Adhering to Company Policies and Procedures with respect to Security, Quality and Health & Safety.
About You: You’re an experienced Android engineer who enjoys both deep technical work and taking a more high-level view. You must have:
- Strong experience building and shipping Android apps in Kotlin (with some Java)
- Experience with networking on Android (TLS, sockets, proxies, etc)
- Experience integrating or working with native (C++/NDK) libraries
- Solid knowledge of Android SDK/API design, versioning and supporting external integrators
- Familiarity with Google Play policies and how Android API-level changes affect apps
- Strong debugging skills (crashes, performance, battery) and good testing practices
- Experience mentoring other engineers or providing technical leadership within a team
You should have:
- Experience with VPNs
- Experience with Accessibility services
- Exposure to privacy-sensitive domains (e.g. GDPR, privacy-by-design)
