We are looking to engage with Freelance Functional Skills Tutors, provisionally for 3-6 months, to hold cohorts in West Yorkshire. Please note: We are currently only recruiting for qualified trainers. If you do not have the required qualifications, we will be unable to take you further at this stage. You must have all required certificates and CPD up to date.
As an Adult Skills Functional Skills Tutor at Realise, you will play a vital role in helping adult learners build the essential maths and English skills they need for everyday life, further study and employment. You will deliver high-quality Functional Skills provision that supports learners to gain recognised qualifications, grow in confidence and achieve their personal and professional goals. Your expertise and encouragement will empower learners to overcome barriers and make meaningful progress.
Whilst no two days will be exactly the same, your key responsibilities are likely to include:
- Planning, organising, delivering and evaluating engaging Functional Skills lessons in maths and/or English at a range of levels, alongside the timely completion of associated administration using our e-portfolio systems.
- Supporting learners to successfully complete and achieve their qualifications within agreed timescales.
- Identifying and promoting progression opportunities into further learning or employment.
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with employers and other stakeholders.
- Creating a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment where adults feel confident to participate and succeed.
- Accurately tracking and recording learner attendance, progress and assessment outcomes.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to continuously improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment.
- Promoting a safe, respectful and professional learning environment at all times.
NB. Our cohorts are typically delivered either one day per week across 8-12 weeks, followed by one day of marking/administration, working 9am-5pm. You must be able to commit to a full cohort of delivery.
Where will I be based? We typically run our courses in our Bradford (Holme Wood) or Huddersfield (town centre) Skills Hub, or in community venues across West Yorkshire. This will be discussed with you further in your interview.

- Our interview process is tailored to each role and can be in-person or held remotely.
- You can expect a two-stage interview process for this position, which will compromise of a short telephone screen call, followed by a one-hour formal interview, either in person or on Teams, where we will ask you a series of competency and behavioural questions, followed by a short microteach.

About You
- Have a minimum of GCSE Grade 4/C for Maths and English, or equivalent
- Experience of delivering Functional Skills through Entry Level to Level 2
- Minimum Level 3 teaching qualification (AET, PTLLS) and assessing qualification (CAVA, TAQA, A1, D32, D33).
- Experience, knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practices and legislation
- Experience and confidence in face to face delivery and also virtual/online delivery
- Must have full driving licence and access to a vehicle
