As a Teaching Assistant Apprentice at St Luke’s Primary School, you will become an integral part of a supportive and welcoming team, dedicated to helping every child achieve their full potential. The role involves supervising and supporting pupils, including those with special educational needs, to ensure their safety and enable full access to learning activities.

The post holder will assist with pupils’ personal care and wellbeing where required, including supporting with health, hygiene, toileting, dressing, feeding, mobility, and the administration of medication. You will be expected to build positive working relationships with pupils, acting as a consistent role model, and contribute to creating a purposeful, orderly, and supportive learning environment in line with lesson plans.

Working closely with the class teacher, you will use appropriate strategies to support pupils in achieving their learning goals and take part in structured learning activities tailored to different learning styles. The role also includes supporting literacy and numeracy programmes, monitoring and recording pupil progress, and providing feedback to the teacher. You will assist in the preparation and display of children’s work, helping to create an engaging classroom environment.

A strong awareness of, and compliance with, school policies is essential, particularly in relation to safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection, with any concerns reported appropriately. You will also contribute positively to the wider school ethos and support its aims and ongoing development.

Training to be Provided

Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. They will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day. You will be working towards the Teaching Assistant Level 3 apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
  • Teaching Assistant L3 Apprenticeship Standard
  • Functional skills in Maths and English if required

This will be delivered by your dedicated training provider, Realise.
