Responsibilities include assisting the Nursery Manager in planning, preparing, and participating in activities designed to meet the developmental needs of children in the group. Regularly observe children to ascertain which activities are best suited to the needs of individual children and the group; complete all relevant records required by the Early Years Foundation Stage and St George’s Nursery. Assist the Nursery nurse/officer in planning, preparing, and participating in activities in the group rooms and outdoors; provide activities to reflect equal opportunity. Assist the Nursery nurse/officer in implementing and evaluating the early years foundation stage. Provide and maintain a happy, caring and stimulating environment. Attend training sessions as required. Provide a high standard of hygiene – a clean, healthy and safe environment at all times for all children in the group, and report any concerns to a Senior Manager. Communicate and consult with parents in a professional manner about the day-to-day needs of children in the group; encourage parents to talk to Senior Managers when appropriate. Maintain positive relationships with parents of all children in the group/Nursery. Actively participate in all aspects of nursery life. Adequately communicate to other staff working different hours about all aspects of the day's work with children. Actively contribute to discussions within the staff team. Attend staff meetings as required. Be familiar with current legislation relating to the profession and the nursery (e.g., The Children Act, Health & Safety, Special Needs, Equal Opportunities, GDPR). Be familiar with all emergency procedures, such as fire drills.

Training to be Provided: Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. They will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day. You will be working towards the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
  • Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator
  • Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid or Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

This will be delivered by your dedicated training provider, Realise.
