The predicted salary is between 12 - 15 £ per hour.

Hours: 3.5 hours per day (part-time).

Location: Colsterworth.

Reporting to: Headteacher / Site Manager / School Business Manager.

Job Purpose

To ensure the school premises are clean, safe, secure, and well‑maintained, providing a welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The caretaker will carry out routine maintenance tasks and support the day‑to‑day running of the school site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Site Security
    • Open and/or lock the school premises as required
    • Ensure all doors, windows, and gates are secured at the end of the day
    • Respond to alarm activations where applicable
  • Cleaning Duties
    • Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming designated areas
    • Emptying bins and disposing of waste
    • Cleaning toilets and wash areas (if required within limited hours)
    • Ensure cleaning standards are maintained across the site
  • Maintenance & Repairs
    • Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs (e.g. fixing fixtures, replacing bulbs)
    • Report any faults, damages, or health and safety concerns
    • Carry out routine checks of school facilities, equipment, and grounds
  • Health & Safety
    • Ensure the premises comply with health and safety regulations
    • Monitor site hazards and take appropriate action
    • Assist with fire safety checks (e.g. clear fire exits, alarm checks if required)
  • Grounds & External Areas
    • Keep entrances, paths, and outdoor areas tidy and safe
    • Assist with basic grounds maintenance such as litter picking
  • Support Duties
    • Set up and clear away rooms for school activities or events
    • Receive and assist with deliveries where required
    • Provide general support to staff when needed

Person Specification

Essential

  • Basic DIY and maintenance skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Awareness of health and safety practices
  • Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, or cleaning role
  • Experience working in a school or similar environment
  • Knowledge of COSHH and safeguarding procedures

Working Pattern

3.5 hours per day 7am-10.30am. Flexibility may be required for occasional additional hours (e.g. events or emergencies).

Safeguarding

This role involves working in a school environment and is subject to safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check. The postholder is expected to uphold the school's commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
