About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant / HLTA to join a secondary school provision in Woolwich that supports students with high Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people who require additional support to access education. This role combines both Learning Support Assistant responsibilities and Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) duties, requiring flexibility, resilience, and a proactive approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with complex SEN needs, including ASD, SEMH, and communication difficulties
- Assist in delivering tailored learning activities under the guidance of teaching staff
- Lead lessons and interventions where required, covering classes in the absence of the teacher
- Support students with behavioural, emotional, and social development
- Help create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals
- Monitor and report on student progress and wellbeing
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with high SEN needs (essential)
- HLTA qualification or equivalent experience (desirable)
- Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, patient approach
- Ability to adapt learning to meet individual needs
- Confident leading small groups or whole-class sessions when required
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
