Overview
In this role, you lead and deliver engineering for transmission substation projects, focusing on EHV/HV AIS and GIS designs and tender support. You will guide cross‑functional teams, manage interfaces, and ensure compliance with standards, QA/QC, and HSSE. You’ll shape technical concepts, perform critical calculations, and oversee as-built documentation. This position offers hands-on leadership in a design-focused, standards-driven environment with global project exposure.

Responsibilities
- Lead all engineering activities from early engagement to as-built, ensuring adherence to project specs and standards
- Act as technical lead for large EHV/HV AIS & GIS projects in the UK
- Coordinate and mentor engineering teams and partners across sites and partners
- Coordinate interfaces among civil, protection and control, auxiliary power, steel structures and equipment suppliers
- Engage in technical discussions with customers and suppliers; manage site queries and as-built actions
- Oversee engineering budget, schedule, risk, and change management; support technical claims
- Develop technical solutions including single line diagrams, layouts, and detail drawings per standards and specifications
- Prepare equipment selections, technical specs, and purchasing schedules; cost estimation and BOQs
- Review supplier designs and factory acceptance test plans; participate in tests at factory and site
- Support tender options and project scope documentation
Key requirements
- Bachelor in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Proven experience in transmission substation engineering with focus on detailed design, tendering, and site support
- Knowledge of SSEN & SPEN requirements and standards
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with internal and external parties
- Experience with substations design: layouts, primary design, grounding, transformers, HV/MV switchgear; system studies like load flow and short circuit; SLDs; CT/VT calculations; auxiliary power systems; power cables
- Experience in installation and commissioning is a plus
- Strong MS Office skills; knowledge of MicroStation and AutoCAD
- Fluency in English; willingness to travel up to 25%
