Having recently celebrated 75 years in business, my metal finishing client has spent decades developing an outstanding reputation in the marketplace, across industries including automotive, medical and energy. They are frequently seen by these clients as being their ‘go to’ supplier for advanced aluminium treatment solutions and believe their success has been built by the capabilities of their highly-skilled workforce – whose hard work is always recognised and rewarded.
Due to continued, strategic expansion, an opportunity has now arisen for a Technical Manager to join them. As a key member of their management team, you will take ownership of continually improving and maintaining the organisation’s exceptional capabilities in all metal finishing processes and research development.
With an understanding of the chemistry and processes of metal finishing, the key responsibilities for your new role as Technical Manager are as follows:
- Identifying, researching, developing and implementing technical product innovations, training and processes to meet current and future customer needs.
- Using technical knowledge and communication skills to provide advice and support on services to customers and internally to employees and managers.
- Ensuring the company’s services are consistent and meet both internal and external requirements, including legal compliance, quality, environmental, health and safety management systems and customer expectations.
- Providing hands-on practical support and lead the solution of technical, quality issues, or health and safety issues and proactively work to reduce errors and/or implement new processes.
- Work in and supervise the running of the laboratories.
- Identify and implement agreed practices to reduce waste and costs and increase efficiency.
- Ensuring documentation and relevant data are kept and maintained to required standards and are used to develop, monitor and produce performance reports.
- Providing training, tools and techniques at individual or group level to employees and Managers to ensure technical and quality standards are met.
- Working with chemicals, test equipment, production equipment and computers.
- Following strict health and safety (COSHH) and environmental instructions.
- Attending national and international trade shows, conferences and metal finishing sites to bring best practice to the UK and maintaining the company’s leadership in the industry.
My client would like to find someone with a higher-level qualification in chemistry, science, engineering or another technical subject, solid metal finishing expertise and a background in the supervisory/management of production or laboratory teams. Regardless of previous expertise, you will possess excellent communication skills, a motivation for self-learning and a high standard in qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
In return, my client is offering a salary of £37,000 - £45,000, dependent on experience, with future opportunities to progress within the organisation being readily available for those who want it. The company are easily accessible from Coventry, Nuneaton, Rugby and the surrounding areas and the area offers sensibly-priced accommodation and a variety of lifestyle options to suit almost any taste.
