As one of the UK’s largest independent manufacturers supplying to the commercial sector, my client manufactures fine chemicals and rubber accelerators and has a history spanning over 150 years. With their headquarters in the West Midlands, they are true pioneers within the chemicals industry. With strategic expansion plans, an opportunity has arisen for a Waste Chemist to join them and work alongside the Waste Manager in the management of waste across the processes the organisation operates.
The key responsibilities for your new role as Waste Chemist are as follows:
- Ensuring all personnel who need to use the waste log are trained and competent.
- Continually reviewing and updating the waste log to ensure it is accurate.
- Managing onsite waste stock, per classification.
- Providing direction and prioritisation to the Waste Manager on storage locations and sampling.
- Liaising with quality control on analysis of waste and interpreting results of waste streams to ensure accuracy of labelling.
- Creating safety data sheets (SDS) of waste streams to ensure compliance and development as required in EXESS (Lisam).
- Recordkeeping and reporting.
- Liaising at all levels within the company providing advice on waste handling.
- Taking part in investigations into waste related accidents/incidents and implementing corrective actions.
- Actively participating in activities/audits to maintain the company EMS (ISO14001).
My client is keen to find someone with a BSC in Chemistry (or similar qualification) and a minimum of two years’ experience of working in the waste management industry. A forklift truck license and CIWM (Chartered Institute of Waste Management) endorsed qualification would be desirable; although not essential.
In return, my client is offering an excellent salary, starting from £30,000, dependent on experience, for a 36.25 hour week. An excellent benefits package is also on offer, which includes 25 days holiday per year (Bank holidays), life assurance, pension scheme, medical cash benefit plan and a generous company sick scheme.
