Responsibilities
- Provides tone, style, structure, and voice for all content based on scientific brand strategy, creative brief, and cross-functional team.
- Able to pivot writing approach, tone, and "voice" to reach different clients, brands, and audiences.
- Writes for one or more brands, working closely with medical to ensure clinical accuracy while staying true to the brand voice.
- Writes clear, concise, accurate, and well-organized copy appropriate to the relevant format and/or channel (print, digital, online, potentially social).
- Responsible for short- and long-form copy development for both HCP and patient audiences; prepares copy for review with creative lead, medical, and account teams.
- Actively participates in discovery, customer strategy sessions, Big Idea generation, and client meetings; helps shape all content development.
- Actively participates in shaping the creative strategy by demonstrating strong conceptual abilities and offering unique solutions to challenges.
- Clearly and confidently presents highly regulated, scientifically oriented creative work to clients, including medical and regulatory reviewers (with oversight); presents work to internal teams as well (creative, medical, and account).
- Integrates the conceptual creative approach with client’s medical and legal requirements and contributes to strategic and tactical advertising/communications concepts that address business challenges.
- Experience working in concert with an art-side partner (e.g., Senior Art Directors) is required.
- Experience working with medical writers, client services, and editors to ensure work is on target, on strategy (meeting business objectives), and on deadline.
- Manages multiple projects, sometimes for different brands; manages workload and timing, proactively informing copy lead and project manager of potential threats to meeting deadlines.
- Contributes to a culture of collaboration and creativity within the team and the wider agency.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in advertising, communications, journalism, or similar creative writing program.
Experience: 3-5 years of professional writing experience and creative leadership in an advertising or digital agency; pharma or health and/or wellness/healthcare writing experience required. Strong experience working on large cross-channel and/or direct marketing brand initiatives, including rich media, web, direct, print; experience with online and social media is a plus. The candidate must present a solid portfolio of campaign material (conceptual through completion) that represents their individual writing across multiple channels and platforms. Portfolio demonstrates strategic solutions to client problems or projects that show strategic and conceptual thinking across a broad range of tactics, including both short- and long form writing. Experience helping lead and support a creative team (art and copy) on brand strategy and deliverables; this seasoned individual contributor may oversee creative team members on assigned projects. Deep experience in pharmaceutical writing from a strategic (brand and scientific research) foundation. Ability to create written materials from concept through execution across multiple platforms (digital and traditional).
