Purpose
The Scientist II will lead technical projects within the Material Sciences team, focusing on rheology and physical characterisation techniques. Responsibilities include executing, developing methods, and managing analytical projects, often large and multi-departmental or international.
You will collaborate with team members to perform analyses, report findings, and ensure standards are met. Knowledge of rheology, sample preparation, and chemistry is essential. The role involves routine and investigative analyses, project influence, client interaction, and report presentation. Training junior staff and reviewing technical work are also expected.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality customer service, organize work effectively, ensure data integrity, and deliver timely reports.
- Perform routine and investigative analyses, including rheology; develop methods and interpret results.
- Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment.
- Check data, interpret results, and generate certificates or reports.
- Present results internally and externally.
- Use relevant software, e.g., LIMS, Q-Pulse.
- Train and supervise junior staff.
- Manage project elements and laboratory administration.
- Work across laboratories as required.
Communication & Influence
- Work efficiently as part of a team.
- Communicate with clients, stakeholders, and management throughout project lifecycles.
- Support marketing of rheology capabilities.
- Participate in meetings and deliver technical presentations.
- Manage R&D projects or parts of larger projects.
Health & Safety
- Follow safety and quality standards, including COSHH, risk assessments, and SOPs.
- Complete and review quality actions promptly.
- Document SOPs, risk assessments, and COSHH.
- Maintain a safe, clean working environment.
- Keep training records current.
Experience
- Degree in a relevant scientific discipline with at least 3 years\’ industrial or laboratory experience.
- Proven expertise in physical properties laboratories using rheological techniques.
Travel
Occasional travel to manufacturing sites may be required.
