The Innovation Academy Pathway Teacher designs and delivers rigorous, standards-aligned, career-connected instruction that prepares students for postsecondary success in high-demand fields. The teacher integrates academic content, technical skill development, industry engagement, and real-world application to ensure all students develop a meaningful and actionable college and career pathway. This role requires innovative instructional design, strong collaboration, ongoing professional growth, and active partnership with industry and postsecondary stakeholders to ensure programming remains relevant, equitable, and future-focused.

Essential Functions

  • Deliver lab-based instruction aligned to biomedical and healthcare standards.
  • Teach foundational anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and research methodology.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, biohazard, and laboratory protocols.
  • Integrate case studies and clinical simulations into coursework.
  • Prepare students for relevant industry certifications where applicable.
  • Coordinate clinical exposure, guest speakers, or healthcare partnerships.

General Pathway Teacher Essential Functions

  • Design and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that integrates academic content with industry-relevant skills.
  • Develop project-based and problem-based learning experiences aligned to pathway outcomes.
  • Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including, but not limited to, students with IEPs, multilingual learners, and gifted students.
  • Integrate literacy, numeracy, and technical skill development within pathway coursework.
  • Utilize a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student mastery and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Maintain alignment between curriculum, pathway competencies, and district instructional framework expectations.
  • Facilitate career exploration, credential awareness, and postsecondary planning within instruction.
  • Embed employability skills (communication, collaboration, professionalism, critical thinking) into daily practice.
  • Supervise and support students in internships, capstones, job shadowing, or work-based learning experiences as applicable.
  • Promote equitable access to advanced coursework, industry credentials, and pathway opportunities.
  • Collaborate with pathway colleagues, counselors, and leadership to ensure cohesive program delivery.
  • Engage with advisory boards, industry partners, and postsecondary institutions to maintain program relevance.
  • Maintain active, two-way communication with students and families regarding academic goals, career opportunities, and personal growth to ensure success within the academy and in postsecondary pursuits.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to promote and maintain professional competence, including any training that is required to deliver the selected curricular programs.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, socio-emotional, and learning needs.
  • Participate in the development of curriculum and innovative career academy programming.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Possession of appropriate degree; experience in urban education, career-connected instruction and/or health and biomedical science is preferred, but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Pennsylvania Instructional Teaching Certificate Chemistry (7-12), Biology (7-12), General Science (7-12), or Health Education (PK-12).

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to speak clearly and distinctly. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with other employees, students, and parents.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply basic arithmetic calculations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions for practical situations. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff. Ability to develop and maintain required records and reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, parents, and the community. Good knowledge of procedures, practices, materials, and equipment required to provide appropriate learning experiences for students to whom assigned. Ability to work as a member of a team. Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with people. Must be cooperative, congenial and service-oriented. Ability to maintain personal self-control in stressful situations. Ability to operate a personal computer and software.
